City Of WOmen
Conceived by the founders of Vaaka Media @rviswanat and @samyuvarma as part of the Google Podcasts creator program of June 2019, @cityofwomen explores the calculated strategies, the backdoor negotiations and the sometimes absurd lengths women go to have fun and feel free in their city. A completely new way of showcasing women’s unique experiences in urban India, City Of Women will speak to every Indian woman. All of us know that being out in the city comes with rules - rules that determine who gets to be where and what you can and can’t do. But this show is not about those rules. It’s about how they get broken, bent, and jumped over when women decide to do things just for themselves. City of Women is fun, complex, and a bit of a joyride into the minds of women and the streets of Bangalore.

We creatied a visual language to augment the witty, insightful, viscerally experiential narratives that have been captured by the @cityofwomen podcast. We took inspiration from the various tips, tricks, attitudes and strategies that we women commonly possess in our arsenal as we navigate urban Indian spaces. Inspired by the ever-watchful eyes and other ubiquitous body-language cues and behaviours, we have come up with a series of gifs that represent every woman’s journey through India’s busy street.

Capable of much more than a demure smile, the tongue-in-cheek expressions that we all use on a daily basis are as articulate as can be. Expressing disdain, annoyance, a well-meaning jibe or a charming apology, it all happens with a distinctive click of the tongue or a roll of the lip, without ever needing another word.
